Unique Minds 1: The Beginning

So this is week one of 'unique minds'; hopefully this will be a regular thing on the JELNO website so check back weekly for the next addition <3

So this week I ordered and started reading Bobby Hundreds 'This is not a t-shirt', a surprisingly good book which almost summarises streetwear over the past 20 years or so. It mainly includes documentation on how 'The Hundreds' came to be but also expands and looks at other brands and streetwear in general, along with how times have changed and how 'streetwear' as a term has gone from the underground to the general masses. It's interesting to see how a brand that started over 15 years ago has evolved and stayed current despite many major setbacks.

I've been thinking of starting a blog/video series about JELNO and startup streetwear brands in general for a while now but the book is what really pushed me to do a weekly blog, even if it's just to document my progress with the brand.

Anyway

I've been trying to finalize the design for the first tee out of the three that I've picked out, it's quite a big moment really as I'll use this design to test out the original idea for JELNO. All three designs are less than 2 colors which means I can hopefully screenprint them in house, which is a bit nerve-racking as I've never screen printed before and I will have to invest screen printing equipment which means even more money is going out with not much coming in. However, the benefit of screen printing the designs in-house is that I can produce small batches without paying a big fee, and I can edit the designs quicker than a company could so I hope it will be worth it in the long run (hopefully I can use the skills from screen printing in the future). Some images of the three designs can be seen below, put a comment which is your favorite it will help me out a tonne.

I was also thinking of getting a small embroidery machine in the near future, but I think I'll talk about that in next week's blog (There will always be a post on Sunday but there may be even more throughout the week so keep checking back).
